There's a message that we send to young drivers, basically all drivers, on a constant basis: Don't drink and drive. Drunk driving is against the law for a reason. It isn't so the government can make money and make fools out of people. It's because drunk driving injures and kills. It takes the roads and turns them into an accident scene just waiting to happen.

A Rochester driver recently exemplified this all too common reality by supposedly getting behind the wheel of her car while intoxicated. Unsurprisingly, she didn't get to her destination without creating trouble and danger for herself and others on the road.

The Wall Street Journal reports that a DWI accident took place last Thursday night. The driver responsible for the incident is 38, definitely old enough to understand the danger and recklessness behind driving under the influence.

When a drunk driver gets on the road, she isn't just risking her own safety. In this case, the driver reportedly was intoxicated enough that she became confused and drove the wrong way just off of Interstate 490 in Rochester. With the dark, the drunk driver's likely erratic driving and the unsuspecting drivers meeting a car coming at them going the wrong way, they had little chance at avoiding an accident.

Fortunately, no one died as a result of the crash, although the three victims from the two cars that were hit did sustain injuries. As for the drunk driver, she faces criminal charges of DWI and vehicular assault. If the victims feel compelled to do so, they could also sue the driver for their injuries in civil court.
